Marin County ordinance 24.04.60 - Intersections (a) madates "Roads shall intersect each other as near to a right angle as is practical. Where several streets converge at one point, special approach treatment shall be provided to optimize driver sight distance and pedestrian safety.

Over time DPW has repaved the south side east bound shoulder of Evergreen Ave. into a sweeping curve that facilitates and encourages fast right hand turning movements from Melrose into Evergreen .

Why not simply repave the intersection, as mandated by 24.04.60 , to be a "right angle" intersection with a minimm pavement return of 25'-0" and require the property owner to remove any sight obstruction over 30 " in height as required by 24.04.60 ?

Or place several large round boulders on the souh side of Evergreen to form a vehicular and pedestrian safe intersection.

Installing a new three way stop sign on Melrose at Evergreen will cause all drivers on Melrose to stop approximately every 150' between Montford and Laverne which will add to each driver's trip time.

Given +/- 1250 trips the driver cost of time lost due to this unecessary stop sign ( if the intersection is not costructed in compliance 24.04.60) could be as much as 5.2 hrs per day at 15 sec per slowdown, stop, and start time or +/- $260 per day @ $50 per hour or $94,900 not including vehicle wear and tear and additional carbon monoxide climate change polutants.

Stop signs are not intended to correct pavement engineersing design and construction errors.

Best regards,

Charles

Hello Mr. Sands -
This is an interesting idea. Can we talk more about this in person?
