The Melrose /Evergreen intersection is not constructed in accodance with Caltrans intersection design standards, if it were it would not be anymore dangerous than the  Evergreen/Scott intersection. 

 

Making Melrose /Evergreen a three-way stop is less expensive than reconstructing it to meet Caltrans intersection design standards but 3 stop signs on Melrose in less than +/- 400 feet is excessive disruption of traffic flow and no warranted by the extremely low traffic volume on Melrose.

 

I would hope that DPW would reconstruct the Melrose /Evergreen intersection to meet Caltrans intersection design standards when DPW  constructs a  4'-0" sidewalk for Marin Horizon School walkers.

I am one of the concerned residents who is asking for a stop sign at Evergreen and Melrose. I live on Evergreen, am a walker, and several times have been nearly hit by cars of (I presume) Homestead residents and others who routinely come down Melrose and cut that blind corner as close as they can. I am not the only one to have this experience. I imagine that is why the residents of that corner have placed large boulders on the corner--to stop cars from cutting across the corner of their property.

Just what are the names of the "several concerned Homestead residents, members of the residents HEAR US group and of them who are Marin Horizon School parents. This is exactly how unwarrante stop signs were installed on Montford to benefit MHS parents waiting on Monford to enter the MHS non-conforming Melrose Ave. passenger loading zone which is mandated to be on-site.
