Subject: Just thought I'd check out the comings and goings on Evergreen.
Gail,
Your below observations confirn mine made over a 9 day period in early October. The reason you saw no MHS students walking is that they only walk in the morinig in order to minimize the MHS vehicle in/out count for Use Permit purposes.

Subject: Re: Evergreen Ave Sidewalk Update: What do you think Homestead Valley?
So I decided to do my "outside the fence" leaf clean-up today, between the hours of 2 and 3:30 pm. Just thought I'd check out the comings and goings on Evergreen. Here's what I observed: a mostly quiet street, two "exercise walkers" (20's - 30's, no kids), 2 Hispanic nannies walking down Evergreen with strollers, one mom walking with her child (who stopped in the middle of the street to greet another mom and kid in an SUV who also stopped in the middle of the street to chat a few minutes before they all finally moved over to the side of the road) an adult bicyclist heading up Evergreen, 3 contractor trucks moving surprisingly slowly (maybe 20 mph), one county truck carrying green cans moving maybe 20 mph, the Campfield boys arriving home from middle school on their bikes, and a car about every 3 or 4 minutes mostly carrying kids down Evergreen towards Whole Foods, of which MOST (70-80%) were travelling way too fast! In fact, the only speeders I saw were parents with kids, and one young guy (20's). And just now, a big school bus barrelling down the street - also going what looked and felt to me to be too fast!
Apart from the whizzing parents, in fact even in spite of them, Evergreen sure looked to me like a safe route to school by any standards! A pretty mellow neighborhood scene. I didn't witness any maternal terror. Physician, heal thyself?
Just one person observing one sunny afternoon.
Gail
